Continuing Health Care (CHC)
Aroa provides specialist psychological and multidisciplinary input to support children and young people with complex and continuing health care needs. Our CHC work focuses on understanding the child or young person as a whole, ensuring that their education, health and wellbeing needs are considered together.
Our multidisciplinary approach
CHC support is delivered through a multidisciplinary team, which may include:
- Educational Psychologists
- a specialist SEND teacher
- a neurodiversity specialist
- other professionals as required, depending on need
This collaborative approach ensures that assessment, planning and recommendations are coherent, joined-up and clearly communicated to families, schools and commissioners.

Assessment and planning
Aroa’s CHC work supports clear, evidence-based understanding of a child or young person’s needs.
Input may include assessment, consultation and written advice to inform planning, provision and review processes. Recommendations are practical, realistic and shaped around the child or young person’s day-to-day context.
Working with families and professionals
CHC work is carried out in close collaboration with families, schools, health services and local authorities.
The aim is to provide clarity, reduce fragmentation and support coordinated decision-making that places the child or young person’s needs at the centre.

Referrals and contact
Referrals for CHC support are typically made through local authorities or health services. Schools and professionals may also get in touch to discuss potential involvement.
