A professional community for Educational Psychologists

The way Educational Psychologists work is changing.

More professionals are looking for flexibility, greater control over their workload and careers that work around family life, personal commitments and long-term wellbeing.

At the same time, many still value collaboration, supervision, professional support and being part of a team.

Schools and families also continue to value consistency. They want to work with professionals who understand their setting, their priorities, their children and their wider community.

At Aroa, we don’t believe those things need to be mutually exclusive.

That’s why we’ve created The Aroa Network.

A professional community designed to bring together Educational Psychologists who want the flexibility of associate working, whilst remaining connected to something bigger.

Why we created The Aroa Network

Since launching in 2022, Aroa has grown from an independent educational psychology practice into a multidisciplinary group supporting schools, families and education providers. Alongside Aroa EPS, which works across the North of England and North Wales, the group now includes Aroa STET, providing specialist therapeutic education and training nationwide, and the Aroa Training Federation, delivering training and SEND consultancy.

As the business has grown, we’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how we continue to expand whilst maintaining the relationships, consistency and quality of support that schools and families value.

We also know the profession is changing.

Many Educational Psychologists are looking for greater flexibility in how they work, particularly around family life, young families and personal commitments. But that doesn’t mean they want to work in isolation.

Educational Psychology is a rewarding profession, but it is also a high-pressure one. The emotional demands of the role, increasing pressures within SEND and the impact of workplace stress mean that professional support, supervision and connection have never been more important.

For many practitioners, it’s also about finding a way of working that supports long-term wellbeing and reduces the risk of professional burnout.

The Aroa Network has been created to bridge that gap.

It’s a way of bringing talented professionals together, creating opportunities to collaborate, share knowledge and access meaningful work, whilst maintaining the flexibility that suits them.

What makes The Aroa Network different?

The Aroa Network isn’t a recruitment agency, and it isn’t just a database of associates.

It’s a professional community built around relationships.

We’re looking for Educational Psychologists who want to be part of something, contribute to a growing organisation and build long-term relationships with schools, families and fellow professionals.

For practitioners, the network offers the flexibility of associate working, but with the added benefit of supervision, team support, peer connection and opportunities to work alongside other professionals.

While many independent practitioners need to source and fund supervision themselves, members of The Aroa Network remain connected to a wider professional community where support, guidance and shared learning are part of the experience.

For schools and families, it offers something just as important – consistency.

When an Educational Psychologist builds a relationship with a school over time, they gain a deeper understanding of its priorities, its staff, its children, its families and its wider challenges. That creates opportunities for more meaningful support, longer-term projects and the kind of informal, responsive advice that often develops when trust is already there.

It also allows schools to work with professionals who understand their ways of working and can provide support that develops alongside the needs of the wider school community.

The best outcomes are rarely achieved through one-off pieces of work alone. They are built through understanding, collaboration and relationships.

Members of the network will have opportunities to:

  • Access flexible working opportunities
  • Build a healthier work-life balance
  • Access supervision, peer support and professional guidance
  • Work with established schools, families and organisations
  • Build long-term professional relationships
  • Collaborate with Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, SEND specialists and other health professionals
  • Take part in multidisciplinary projects
  • Access varied work beyond statutory assessments, including need-led projects, ongoing support for schools and families, and opportunities to work across the wider Aroa Group
  • Take part in developing and delivering training and professional development
  • Become part of a supportive and growing team

Who is The Network for?

The Aroa Network has been designed for Educational Psychologists who want greater flexibility without losing professional connection.

It may be particularly suited to practitioners who are looking to reduce employed hours, explore a portfolio career, return to practice, take on additional work alongside an existing role or create a way of working that feels more sustainable in the longer term.

The network is for people who value collaboration, supervision, professional support and multidisciplinary working.

It is also for practitioners who are passionate about achieving positive outcomes for children and young people, and who understand the importance of building strong relationships with schools, families and colleagues.

More than Educational Psychology

Alongside Educational Psychology, the wider Aroa Group includes qualified Occupational Therapists, Autism Specialists, SEND Consultants, therapeutic specialists and experienced support professionals. Through Aroa STET and the Aroa Training Federation, the group also delivers therapeutic education, training and consultancy to organisations across the UK.

Aroa also has growing expertise across areas including sensory integration and autism, with members of the team continuing to develop specialist knowledge through further training and study.

The best outcomes are often achieved when professionals work together, share perspectives and bring different areas of expertise to the table.

The Aroa Network has been designed with that same thinking in mind.
